The cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) is the red, cherry-shaped fruit of an evergreen prostrate shrub from the genus of the blueberry.

Origin

Grown in Europe, Asia, and North America. Cranberries are primarily cultivated in North America (New England and Canada) for industrial uses.

Harvest

North America and Europe: September to November

Production

The berries are only sold dried – as whole berries or halves, sometimes with oil to prevent sticking, and sweetened with sugar or a sweetener.

Uses

Cranberries are used in baked goods, dairy products, sauces, and ready-made meals, etc.
